Cupping Therapy is an ancient form of alternative medicine in which a therapist puts special cups on your skin for a few minutes to create suction. People get it for many purposes, including to help with pain, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation and well-being, and as a type of deep-tissue massage. Cupping is a great option when other forms of manual therapy aren't "enough" for you, or you are sensitive to massage (like you are unable to take deep pressure or are easily ticklish). It is a treatment recommended for stubborn pains, tight muscles and joints.
Cupping Therapy might be trendy now, but it’s not new. It dates back to ancient Egyptian, Chinese, and Middle Eastern cultures. One of the oldest medical textbooks in the world, the Ebers Papyrus, describes how the ancient Egyptians used cupping therapy in 1,550 B.C. . There are many benefits to cupping therapy, including the release of soft tissue by loosening muscle and fascia, increasing blood flow to restricted areas, and detoxification within the body.
The negative pressure loosens and lifts connective tissue by separating muscle and fascia, which creates stimulation with circulatory and lymph flow, break up of adhesions, and drains stagnation.
Please note that cupping is not for everyone, especially those that have certain contraindications. Please inform your practitioner of any medical conditions you may have.
